WHERE ARTIST WAS BORN & RAISED:
Jacques David Gold was born and raised in California amidst villages and townships outside of the San Francisco Greater Bay Area to French Catholic parents growing up with one older and four younger brothers. His parents were from the Midwestern States and were strongly influenced by ancestral roots tied to previous generations from Western European and the United Kingdom. They taught him and his brothers the traditional social values of kindness, empathy, courtesy and politeness -- and the importance of striving to practice the "Golden Rule".
ART & FORMAL EDUCATION:
When in high school the family permanently moved south to a warmer climate for his mother's health where his parents paid for him to have a mail-order art course with drawing assignments and professional artist responses. Upon graduating from High School he left home and spent two years in Sacramento, California and a good while in Southeast Asia. After returning home he started his six years of formal college and university studies, midstream he received and accepted a full academic scholarship to go out of state and attend one of the largest private universities in the country where he continued his studies in many varied aspects of art and design with an evolved major in the principles of industrial design for manufacturing.
ARTIST'S PROFESSIONAL DEGREES -- CAREER:
After receiving his Associate of Arts degree in Advertising Arts, he received three BA degrees: Manufacturing Industrial Design, Fine Art, and Graphic Design. His twenty five year career as a professional industrial designer consisted of working for differing types of manufacturing companies (mostly imaging giants). He was employed primarily in New York State, some in the Midwestern States and several times in Southern California. After gaining sufficient experiences in the process of industrial design as an employee, he ventured out on his own as a professional industrial design consultant practicing for many years.
RETIRED EARLY AND BEGAN HOBBY IN ART DRAWING :
The ever increasing outsourcing of manufacturing, over the past many decades, to include industrial design services to foreign countries, resulted in a growing unstable client base for him to operate in. Out of necessity to keep busy and continue working, the professional industrial designer transformed himself to go on to become a classical artist, hand drawing architecture and manufactured automobiles as he had learned to design and draw while he was in years of art & design schooling.
He closed down his successful design consultancy and left the heavily competitive manufacturing corporate world behind with all of the challenges and replaced it with a quite, slow pace of drawing artwork -- without the deadlines, constant corporate crises and competitive practices. He then chose a new path, retired early and concentrated on keeping himself busy by falling back on his life long, highly developed skills of conceptualizing visual imagery by hand drawing his envisioned ideas.
ORIGINS OF ARTWORK GENRE:
He began with hand drawings designing architectural elevation residential house facades depicting period fashionable home styles of the eighteenth and nineteenth century influenced by English, French, Italian and Colonial Period America. Secondly he progressed into drawing old automobiles from the 1930s to match the house facades. Thirdly he created backdrops with background scenery environments through a multiplicity of techniques by hand artwork combining with vintage automobiles. Lastly, he went on to draw hundreds of automobile drawings depicting classic car models primarily from the 1930s to the 1980s and has since expanded the automobile model years to extend to various popular international models up to the present today.
ORIGINS OF THE HOLLYWOOD CONNECTION
HollywoodCarArt.com
A decade ago, the artist experienced while selling small, framed artwork of his Duesenberg classic cars in Montana, an enthusiastic response to the often connection between the various Duesenberg Model J cars to Hollywood celebrities like Clark Gable and Gary Cooper etc. This is where the idea of "HOLLYWOOD CAR ART" came from, and now generally every automobile make and model he has hand drawn is somehow associated with some major or lesser known Motion Picture Film or Television Series, and in some cases the car is or was owned by a famous celebrities in the Entertainment Industry.
WHAT TYPE OF AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCT DIPICTED IN ARTWORK:
The artist has produced hundreds of automobile drawings covering one hundred years of design and manufacturing, depicting American, English, French and German brands. The displayed classic and contemporary modern car wall artwork comes in a variety of forms from period to modern architectural backdrops, and some with panoramic scenic backgrounds and others with the automobile shown alone in a variety of simplified, generic backgrounds.

He enjoys spending winters in the Southwestern states. He has a son and daughter with grandchildren spread out across the United States.
DEMONSTRATED TALENT IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL:
In the third grade his teacher saw artistic talent in him and commissioned him to paint large holiday murals on white butcher paper with poster paints to be displayed around the class room. At the age of eight he had become very proficient in shadowing techniques as having been made aware of in Walt Disney animated movies and popular cartoons on television. As he trained himself artistically to render showing light and shadow as to denote three dimensional form in colored crayons first and then quickly progressed to other mediums.
STARTED DRAWING CARS AT AGE THIRTEEN:
When he was thirteen years of age, his mother purchased a ream of 11x17" white paper at the Big Red Barn Flee-Market on Highway 101 in Aromas, California (this was before it became a common photo copying size). The chosen medium to draw with was acquired colored pencils, as this was the medium that his mother used for landscape drawing in art class in high school.
CONTINUAL USE OF NEW TYPES OF ARTIST MATERIALS & PROCESSES:
The young teenage artist chose to draw side views of popular automobiles as seen in magazines such as popular models from GM, Ford and Chrysler; and continued to draw cars in colored pencil throughout high school. As an adult, during his military service in Sacramento, and afterwards, he continued his car drawings progressing into adding colored pastel to emphasize shadowing, use of watercolors and markers. Drawing older 1930s Brands such as Packard, Auburn, Cord and Duesenberg along with current luxury brands of Cadillac, Imperial, and Lincoln with domestic sports cars as Chevrolet Corvette, Camaro and Ford Mustang.
